Awards Dinner 2009
On Saturday, September 26, 2009 the Liberian Organization of the Piedmont (LOP) celebrated exceptional people at its premier Community Leaders and Legends Hall of Fame awards dinner. The event was designed to recognize the Community Leader and Community Legend Award recipients, which culminated with honorees being inducted into the Community Leaders & Legends Hall of Fame.
These awards were presented by the LOP Hall of Fame Planning Committee, which helps to identify and honor exceptional people whose works, sacrifices, and lives serve as role models and positive examples of civic-minded members of the community, state, and the world.
The event was held at the MC Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The event was held at 6:00 p.m. in North Main Hall A. The Hall of Fame Planning Committee had approximately 100 attendees.
Words of encouragement were given by Dr. Ed Wilson, WFU Provost Emeritus and English Professor; Mr. Nigel Alston, Motivational Speaker, Dale Carnegie Trainer, and Columnist; Dr. Charles Ford, Dean of the WSSU School of Arts and Sciences; and Mr. Keith Grandberry, President and CEO of the Winston-Salem Urban League.
The awards dinner featured a special performance by the Otesha Creative Arts Ensemble, the oldest professional African-American dance company in North Carolina. Under the direction of Hashim Saleh, Executive Director and founding musician, the Othesha Creative Arts ensemble provides programs that explore the heritage and culture of African, modern and Jazz dance.
