Mayor allen joines - winston salem

 

Our illustrious Mayor Allen Joines made a special trip from out of state to present and read the “Proclamation” to his long time friend Dr. Lartey for his outstanding service to the Winston-Salem community and declared December 11, 2011 as ‘Rev. Dr. Seth O. Lartey Day’ in Winston-Salem.

Among many speakers with impromptu sentiment of appreciations were:

  • Forsyth county commissioner Hon. Everest Witherspoon and Mr. Ward Miller who succeeded Dr. Lartey as chairman of Goler Institute for Development and Education (GIDE)
  • Letters of gratitude's & commendations were read on behalf of Governor Bev Perdue, Representative Larry Womble, and Dr. Maya Angelou, to name just a few.

Our Love & Appreciation

We want to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all for the efforts and contributions for a memorable honoring ceremony(12/11/11).

Thank you to all of the LOP members that turned out in support of this celebration.

Dr. Lartey, a native of Liberia, was presented a resolution Read by Mrs. Vera A. Clark, the first woman president of the Liberian Organization of the Piedmont (LOP). In accordance with their culture, LOP president Mr. James Y. Hunder, Sr. Led residents of the Liberian community  in bestowing on Dr. Lartey a title of honorary Paramount Chief and gowned him with a traditional attire as a symbol of love, respect and honor in their culture (Liberia). The Othesa Creative Dance Ensembles performed for the  packed church. The service was followed by a sumptuous reception in the multipurpose room of the Goler Family Enrichment Center.
