Liberian Mayor Keynotes the Liberian Independence & Flag Day Celebration
The Liberian Organization of the Piedmont (LOP) held its annual celebration of the 168th Liberian Independence and Flag Day Celebration. The Honorable Julia K. Bono, Mayor of the Buchanan City Corporation, Grand Bassa County, Liberia was the guest speaker.

Mayor Bono thanked the LOP and the citizens of Winston-Salem for their support during the Ebola crisis. However, she emphasized that Liberians must remain vigilant in its efforts. During her visit, Mayor Bono sought to strengthen the relationship with Forsyth Technical Community College and the Grand Bassa Community College. Forsyth Tech is collaborating with the Grand Bassa Community College located in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. Dr. Gary Green, President of Forsyth Tech was in attendance. Mayor Bono presented Dr. Green with a gift of an authentic hand-woven Liberian shirt as a token of appreciation.
Close to 150 supporters came out to the event which featured a fashion show, a showcase of authentic Liberia clothing and artifacts, and cultural entertainment. The evening ended with the Grand March, a traditional Liberian dance usually performed at celebrations.
