About Us

The Liberian Organization of the Piedmont (LOP) was established in 1988 with the mission to advance educational opportunity, human relations, and international understanding and brotherhood. LOP assists other community service groups, serves people in need locally and by extension, helps in the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resettlement and relief of Liberians during and after 14 years of brutal civil war (December, 1989 through August 2003).  LOP believes in the philosophy that “it takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home.” Our sole purpose and mission is deeply rooted in this philosophy; and we have been very blessed!

Over the years, we have created programs through which we are committed to giving back to our local and international communities. We awarded scholarships to local students and donated medicine, clothes, and non-perishable goods to various international refugee camps valued at over $35,000.00.

We have hosted the annual Miss Africa/African-American Educational Pageant, and look forward to hosting the Community Leaders and Legends Hall of Fame and promoting the Friends of Liberia-North Carolina Commission (FOLNC).

Through the pageant, we shared the rich history and knowledge of our African culture and heritage and provided financial support for the winning queen to participate in a five-week summer program in Africa. The Community Leaders and Legends Hall of Fame will recognize and honor works, sacrifices, and the life of those individuals, who serve as role models and positive examples of civic-minded members of our community-at large. And, the FOLNC was established in response to president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s passionate request to the international communities for private investments, humanitarian support, as well as international and municipal partnerships to help rebuild war-torn Liberia. To reach this goal, the FOLNC under the auspices of the LOP has begun working fervently to identify and encourage potential investors to explore opportunities for investment, to help rebuild, strengthen and sustain the economic structure of Liberia.

The LOP is a 501c(3) and is also classified as a public charity. Therefore, contributions to LOP are tax deductible.  If you have any questions about the LOP tax-exempt status, please call: (877) 829-5500
